About the template
The 2027 Marketing Projection Template is a free Google Sheets tool for marketing leaders building next year's budget and needing a plan they can defend to finance or leadership. It covers budget allocation across channels, so you can see spend and expected return side by side instead of planning each channel in isolation.
To use it, enter planned spend by channel and month, then use the channel planning tabs to model expected leads or revenue based on historical performance or benchmarks. Review the ROI projections to see where the plan expects the strongest return, and update the monthly tracking tabs as actuals come in so the projection stays grounded in real performance. Use the sheet to decide where to shift budget as the year progresses.
Questions people ask
How do you create a marketing budget for the year?
Build an annual marketing budget by starting from revenue or pipeline targets, working backward to the spend needed per channel based on historical cost per lead or cost per customer, then allocating across channels based on past performance and strategic priorities. Reviewing and adjusting the plan quarterly keeps it realistic as results come in.
What percentage of revenue should go to marketing?
B2B companies commonly allocate somewhere between 6% and 12% of revenue to marketing, though this varies by growth stage, with earlier stage or faster growing companies often spending toward the higher end to build pipeline. The right number depends more on growth targets and channel efficiency than on a fixed industry rule.
How do you project marketing ROI for the coming year?
Project marketing ROI by applying historical conversion rates and cost per lead or customer figures, by channel, to your planned spend for the year, then adjusting for known changes like new channels or pricing shifts. Building in a range rather than a single number, and updating it monthly against actuals, keeps the projection useful rather than static.
